Valencia's Renaissance: A City Redefining Itself
An essay and companion piece to our recommendations for Spain's third city
Recently, while Roséline was compiling a comprehensive guide to Valencia, Spain, we found ourselves fondly remembering our time in the city. Of all the places we've lived, it was my favourite, and I felt compelled to articulate why. However, I faced a familiar challenge: how does one capture the essence of what makes a place truly special? The thought immediately reminded me of a scene from the 1997 Australian comedy The Castle1. In the film, an inept lawyer defends a family's right to keep their home against developers, basing his argument solely on "the vibe" of the Australian constitution. While comical in context, this notion of an intangible "vibe" strikes a chord when I think about Valencia. It's not just one thing; it's an amalgamation of elements that create its uniquely captivating atmosphere.
