I know it’s absurd to be reading a book on the perils of over-optimising while judging myself for not reading enough lately, as though time were a ledger and I’d somehow fallen behind. Perhaps because of that irony, I’ve found myself looking toward another form of optimising, to something that has lingered at the corners of my mind for far too long, unsettling in its persistence, impossible to ignore.
