Screenshots and Saves /002 (Holiday Edition)
A wonderful French bistro in Borough Market, and a recipe for matcha cocktails for holiday soirées; beautiful tablescape inspiration in shades of red, and more
This instalment of Screenshots and Saves comes to you from beautiful Scotland, where we are enveloped in the delicious lull just before Christmastime arrives. The atmosphere is dreamlike and unhurried, illuminated by candlelight (amber, fig, and musk) and warmed by wine. Soon there will be champagne and cashmere jumpers, good company and hors d'oeuvres, but for tonight, it's a cosy retreat of favourite Christmas films and music, deep conversation, and too many Ferrero Rochers. This second instalment includes a study of the colour red (a shade I've long avoided during the holidays, dismissing it as predictably cliché but am beginning to rethink this decision); a lovely neighbourhood bistro to bookmark; artsy finds and wishlists, and so much more. This edition is for Paid Subscribers—thanks so much for your support.

SAVED /shades of red
Crimson, scarlet, vermillion, cherry, ruby—whatever the shade, the association of the colour red with Christmas has evolved over centuries from a combination of religious symbolism, cultural traditions, and commercial (Coca-Cola! actually) influences. Over time, red also came to symbolise warmth, love, and generosity, which are central themes of the Christmas season. The colour evokes feelings of joy, warmth, and passion.
